Vinyl changes the masters from neutral in every case but sometimes it is nice if you keep the playing times and constraints. I have cut from tape 1/2 inch 30ips, 24/96 and most often now 24/48kHz. Oh and there is zero hissĬlick to expand.I have one advantage or is it a disadvantage in that I have the master files that are cut to vinyl as it is my own music. Accuracy on the 305s in most respects is like HD vs 4K but the SVA system does do dynamics better and sounds nicer (subjectively). But on better vinyl that is less of a matter and the dynamics of less compressed (older masters) win.īut you know what is interesting that vinyl system is a Marantz AV Receiver with JBL SVA-2100s for speakers. Distortion, rolled high frequencies and increasing distortions the closer it gets to the centre or the disk. Mann, all those limitations of vinyl are so noticeable now. Recently outside of my studio I put the Systemdek with the Linn K18 cartridge on as my 5 year old has been really interested. With idiot DJ's this can be a help, especially when they think vinyl is superior in sonics. I can also in some situations sort of push a louder level on the cuttings +6dB so there is less compression on the release but just loud. Seriously questioning whether to ditch the turntable and vinyl at home now.Ĭlick to expand.Funny thing about vinyl, I love it as a DJ and touching what I play as nothing digital comes close. The imagery, clarity and bass are outstanding. A £120 DAC and £200 speakers left me speechless. This cobbled together budget system sounds better than my vinyl setup and is just about the best thing I have ever heard. No idea what I was doing technically and just experimented. Music streamed via Amazon Music HD/ultra HD.
ARC SYSTEM 2.5 VS SONARWORKS UPGRADE
Just over a year ago I decided to upgrade my office listening experience, as I spend far more time listening there.ĭisappeared down an electronic rabbit hole and emerged with a Topping E30 DAC and a pair of JBL LSR305P MKii's.
Going to experiment with isolation and some more soft furnishings. Sounds good with most music, but can be a bit muddled/brash. I now have an RP3, Marantz PM6006UK and Wharfedale Diamond 12.2's. A couple of years ago I caught the vinyl bug again.
Practical and financial considerations meant that the LP12 had to go and the vinyl was relegated to the loft/attic. Before I had kids 25 years ago, I loved vinyl and had a Linn Sondek LP12 based system. I've worked from home for years, listening to music via my pc's soundcard and some aged Labtec computer speakers. (great cheap way to connect balanced studio monitors) the Monoprice studio subwoofer with balanced inputs AND outputs - sub seems fast and tight, and amazing value.

And for direct comparison, I have a system to my right with powered Airmotivs (ports plugged), Loxjie DAC, 10" sub, running from my Mac Pro - also a very clean system, but the JBL system seems significantly more dynamic.
ARC SYSTEM 2.5 VS SONARWORKS PC
I'm using this for the PC system in my office and I sit about 1.5M away - and the sound seems very linear and airy - if not slightly bright (I have the HF trim set to -2db). I'm running a Bel Canto DAC3 (via USB) from my custom PC rig, connected via XLR to the Monoprice studio sub and the LSRs. I've had the one with the hiss replaced, and both are absolutely, dead silent in operation. one of the two exhibited awful hiss/hum throughout, whatever the output setting - the other however, dead silent. I'd probably advise people to get the largest 308p version if they can live with the size/cost.įinally got around to picking up a pair of the Mk2s for my PC rig system. I do enjoy the bass of the 308p Mkii, so I couldn't imagine having the smaller 306p or 305p versions. I haven't looked into the detail of the measurements enough for the original version of the 308 (the Mki or LSR whatever it was called.ah, it was called the LSR308) to know which would win in a shootout, but I know they're different.

It does have quite high measured distortion though in Amir's review, but as far as I'm aware it doesn't affect me, I don't play them that loud though, a full scale 0dBFS signal is about 80-83dB at my 2m listening position.
ARC SYSTEM 2.5 VS SONARWORKS SERIES
The 308p Mkii measures the best of the Mkii series if I remember rightly, the directivity is great and the frequency response is pretty good and very easily tameable with EQ (see the following post: ). I bought them around March 2020 before Amir did a review on the 308p Mkii, I got them for £300 a pair (or £150 each) which was a great deal in hindsight. Click to expand.I've already bought one of them, the 308p Mkii.
